Sometimes the very thing you do to try and help yourself can be damaging you. Your diet might be one of those things. If you’re noticing a recurring midmorning headache or stomach cramps after a veggie-filled lunch, you may be suffering from unidentified food intolerances.

The issue with trying to keep a healthy diet is that more and more people are finding they have an intolerance or allergy to otherwise healthy foods. So, a healthy diet for you and a healthy diet for me may be completely different definitions.

See if you can relate to any of these examples.

Common food intolerance – Whole Grains

Whole grains are hugely more nutritious than their white (read: bleached!) counterparts. A common health tip is to switch white bread for whole-grain loaves and ‘regular’ pasta for the whole wheat variant.

But if you’re intolerant to wheat, the switch doesn’t do anything except increase your exposure to the proteins that trigger your reactions. This can increase or exacerbate any headaches or fatigue caused by wheat intolerance.

However, with bread usually consumed with other food items, it can be difficult to accurately determine the cause of your symptoms. This is why being tested for food intolerances is a great way to clear up which food is the culprit.

Nuts

With walnuts known to reduce blood pressure and nuts, in general, are jam-packed with nutrients, there’s no wonder they’re recommended as an ideal source for your healthy fats. After all, healthy fats can aid cognitive function and keep you fuller for longer. But Nuts aren’t an uncommon sensitivity. And if you are intolerant to them, you might find that increased clarity and satiety replaced with sluggishness and bloating.

Fibrous Vegetables

The holy grail of a healthy diet – the vast majority of people agree that greens are good for you. Vegetables are abundant in nutrients, low in calories and fibrous. However, there are two different types of fibre. Soluble and insoluble, each with a different role to play in our digestive system.

If you happen to be intolerant to the insoluble fibre found in leafy greens such as broccoli, then you might end up suffering from diarrhea. That’s a little more movement than we’re usually hoping for.

Getting your diet just right can be challenging, but at Test Your Intolerance we can help simplify the process. We provide testing against various food intolerances and allergies with clear and concise results, so you can confidently tailor your diet to your specific needs. Don’t let ignorance get in the way of you becoming your most optimal self.
